After a long wait, the bathrooms at Chaparral have finally been remodeled. What started off as a headache at the beginning of last school year, now has the construction workers nearly ready to pack up.
Assistant Principal Mr. Isaacs said that the final cost of the project is just around $5 million.
“This cost includes not just the infrastructure, but also the soap, paper towels and toilet paper,” explained Isaacs, “but also making sure that all of the pipes function well.”
He added that all of the school’s bathrooms are all open and working properly, except for ones that are in the gym; specifically one in the boy’s section and one in the girl’s sections of the gym.
Though no major bathroom pass policies have changed, there is a change this year in what bathrooms are open and when they are open.
Isaacs said that during lunches all bathrooms on the second floor will remain closed and only the bathrooms downstairs will remain open.
He said, “Also with more security, it will no longer be so easy to do inappropriate things when entering these during class hours or at lunch break.”
The whole project, which also included the removal of the school’s decade’s old lockers, and the installation of new drinking fountains and water refill stations took about 7-months.
“Which was about 1 and a-half months over due,” according to Isaacs.
Now that the bathrooms are remodeled and with more security, there will be fewer problems of students doing wrongful acts, there will be fewer common problems such as water not flowing or clogged toilets.
“The school already needs remodeling of certain parts and, if possible, of the entire structure,” added Isaacs. “The fact that the bathrooms have been remodeled is already a sign of progress.”
